I had my final prenatal doctor appt on Friday, August 26th. I was hoping that I wouldn't make it to this appt because that meant I was two days overdue. My blood pressure was once again a little high, so the doctor sent me to Triage where they would test my blood pressure and do some blood work to make sure everything was ok. After an hour of testing we got word that everything was fine, but we decided to set up an induction to get this baby out. My induction was scheduled for Saturday, August 27th at 5:30pm.
This was WONDERFUL timing, as my parents were here, Jason's dad was here, and his mom had just arrived a few hours before the induction!!!
Headed to the hospital to have our baby!!!
We checked in and got settled in our room. After being left in the room for a few hours, the nurse finally came in and said they couldn't induce me quite yet because at the same time that I arrived, so did about 5 other women in "active labor". They were not about to start someone's labor until these other women were taken care of. We waited in the room until 12:30am, when they finally came in and started the induction process. Let me tell you...that was a LOT of waiting!!!
40.5 weeks pregnant!
Waiting to get the induction process started
We had to wait 12 hours for the cervix thinning to complete before starting the Pitocin. We started the Pitocin at about 2pm on Sunday, August 28th, and it wasn't until about 6pm that the contractions got painful. At 9pm the nurse checked me only to tell me that I was still at 3cm!!! She said that they would check me again at midnight. By 11pm the pain was UNBEARABLE and I was asking for an epidural (they don't like to give them before 4cm and prefer not until 6cm) so the nurse came in and checked me again. Unfortunately I was still not making any progress. This didn't seem possible for the amount of pain I was in. We all got quite discouraged at this point. The doctor came in literally 5 minutes later and checked me again and much to our surprise he said I was 9cm, almost 10cm! I was still asking for the epidural at this point because I couldn't even lay on the bed, so delivery seemed impossible. Right when the epidural guy was starting to get ready my water broke and I had to give up on the thought of getting an epidural. 30-40 mins of pushing later Cambrynn Jean Lumsden was born!

Mommy's turn to hold Cambrynn!
Welcome Cambrynn!
Because I was tested positive for Group B Strep (a bacterial infection in the birth canal), and you are suppose to get at least 2 doses of antibiotics before the baby is born, and I only had time to get one dose, we had to stay in the hospital for an extra 48 hours so they could monitor Cambrynn. This made our stay in the hospital nearly 5 days long!! We enjoyed all the visitors while we were there, but we were soooooo ready to come home!!

It was such a surreal feeling to know that we came to the hospital as a family of two and went home as a family of THREE!
