Memorial Day Weekend on Anderson Island

We don't frequent my parents' house on Anderson Island all that often, mostly just because we have to commit a whole weekend to going, we have to bring the dogs, and the ferry schedule and kids' schedules don't usually align.  But this year we decided to go for the long Memorial Day weekend.

This was definitely not like a typical CA Memorial Day weekend where we spent the day on the lake boating and soaking up sun.  This year in WA it was chilly and cloudy for the entire weekend, which kind of bummed me out.

The weekend didn't really start off all that great (as most of our trips to the island have seemed to go). We had grand plans to be smarter than everyone else and leave mid day on Friday, May 22nd.  Of course everyone else had that grand plan as well (and we left later than planned) and what usually would take us no more than an hour and half to get to the ferry took us 5 HOURS!!!!!  With kids and dogs this was AWFUL!  Once we got to the ferry we happened to miss getting on it by about 5 cars. Let me repeat...the ferry schedule and kids' schedules don't using align!  We were now past dinnertime, had to sit in the ferry line for an hour and needed to entertain 2 dogs and 2 kids.

Once on the island it felt like a big relief!  Dinner was ready as soon as we walked in the door and the grandparents were ready to be on kid duty (thanks to my fabulous parents).  The next two days we had fun taking walks, riding bikes, walking on the beach and enjoying the Memorial Day Island festivities on the Johnson Farm and at the firestation for a pancake breakfast. All in all it was a good family weekend that helped to take us away from the everyday craziness of our lives at home.

Visiting the Johnson Farm for festivities

Cammy wanted to ride Hailey's 4-wheeler

And of course Hailey wanted to ride Cammy's big girl bike

Daddy's shoulders are the best for a beach walk!

A VERY RARE family photo with the dogs!!!!
