A Joint Birthday Celebration

Since Brielle and Hailey have birthdays 6 days a part we decided to skip the birthday party stuff this year and do a joint family party at Great Wolf Lodge, an indoor water park about 2 hours South from our house. We went right after Hailey's preschool performance on Dec. 9th and stayed 2 nights leaving on Dec. 11th. Unfortunately Jason had a work thing come up at the last minute and had to take a separate car so he could head home on the 10th. The girls invited 3 of our close family friends, but due to different circumstances (new babies and moving out of state) only one family was able to come, The Mitchells. The girls just adore their kids, Zach and Bailey, so it was a super fun weekend!!! My parents (Grams and Gramps) also joined us for the weekend of fun.

We stayed in another themed room, but this time it was the Kids Cabin where there are a set of bunk beds and then one addition bed (perfect for 3 kids). This was Brielle's first time not sleeping in a pack n' play and getting to stay in her own bed. We were a bit nervous because when we changed Brielle's crib into a toddler bed back at home about a month ago everytime she woke up she walked out of bed and came into our room. Thankfully she did great here and didn't climb out all the time!!

We learned that going to Great Wolf Lodge was extra fun in the month of December because they have a lot of little extra activities going on all the time and everything was free. We would run into crafts, dance parties, shaved ice and cupcakes, face painting, storytime, hot chocolate, Wiley the Wolf, and it snowed bubbles in the lobby regularly. We even got to visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus!

The kids enjoyed the water park. I'd say we spent most of our time in the little kid area or the wave pool, but we would try and switch off with the Mitchells for watching our kids so we could go kid free on some adult slides.

We had a little party in our room on the night of the 10th. It was rainbows and unicorns theme. We had cupcakes and opened a few presents to make it feel like a birthday party with friends. I know Hailey and Brielle won't always want to do parties together, and that is fine, but it was the perfect thing for them this year and such a great little getaway during this crazy time of the year!!!
