The Great Front Yard Makeover

For over a year now Jason and I have been wanting to re-do our front yard. I always was the one holding him back because of my fears of starting a big project and not being able to complete it (especially when it's the front of our house where everyone can see it). Finally on Labor Day weekend the front yard really got to me and I caved and let the project begin (it also helped that my in laws were here and they could help assist the project).

Our front yard always consisted of dead "grass" and what Jason wanted was to tear it all out and plant plants to cover the front yard. I have trouble seeing things unless it is complete, so I let him just take the lead and do whatever he wanted.

On August 31st Jason rented a tiller and officially broke ground on the project. By the end of the day it was safe to say that my anxiety was at an all time high looking at my torn up front yard.

Goodbye grass, hello dirty mess

Next up was making the brick walls.

Then it was buying the plants and planting them.

The dream team of the front yard makeover!

The plants are all planted

Then a little brick pathway was placed along the driveway edge so we had something to step on when getting in and out of the car.

Also while making the little pathway, stones were bought to make a patio at the top of the hill. Eventually our plan is to have some chairs up there that we can sit in so we can watch the kids play in the cul-de-sac.

The last thing that we have been able to accomplish was laying down a topsoil cover on the dirt to help give it a more finished look.

We are 3/4 of the way done!

Needless to say this project is far from being done. We still need to put in a pathway of somesort up the other side and level the stones at the top to finish the patio. Then we just need to watch these plants grow...hopefully fast because they look a little small for the space.

I am going to give some major credit where credit is due to my amazing in laws! This project was started by Jason and ended up being done by them because a major work problem surfaced at Boeing in Jason's dept and he was tied down at his job long hours and even weekend days. My in laws stepped in and helped us get this project moving until they had to head out on their RV travels. We couldn't have done half as much as actually got done without their help!! So thank you Scott and Glenda!
